Cool maps that never get played - t o x y n
Evenin' folks!

This article is a presentation of a couple of maps which are either rarely mentioned or have never really been played at all. I'm not saying you'll find a bunch of maps you've never heard before, well, maybe you will. Who knows. The point is that these worthy maps are here to fulfill that craving for new maps and some variety beyond the normal rotation thats played every night. I won't promise that you'll like them- everyone has different opinions/tastes.

These maps are nice in most aspects: design, colormap quality, unit trades, special features, gameplay, etc. The maps below are also focused on reg multiplayer myth, not creative coop levels or whacky 12-start dorf riot maps (not that theres anything wrong with those). There will be both ffa and 2t maps featured. These are not listed in any specific order. They are actually in somewhat of an alphabetical order, because I'm just going thru the plugins that I have loaded, and essentially, they're in alphabetical order. Skip through them if you wish to just find the DL links. I'll try to make it interesting, but I hate taking screenshots and having to size them down. Also, if you don't see a DL link for a map, I couldn't find where I originally got the map from. I didn't check through all of the myth map resources out there, some might still be up somewhere. If needed, I can upload missing maps to my webspace @ atomicgamer or put them up at The Tain.

Without further delay, here ya go...

'Till the River Runs Dry
Author: ???
Meshes: 4t Light, 4t Dark, 4t Dorf Riot

This is a nice, somewhat simplistic map. Obviously, its theme is a dried river area. Sort of like Piled Higher & Deeper, but not as good. The colormap is well done, and except for the dark mesh (could use a dorf added to the mix mb), the unit trades are balanced. There is a limit to gametypes, and maybe the overall unit amount could have been a bit bigger, but it's fine the way it is. The map's main design features are the hills and the crater mid, which is big enough to fit a whole lot of dead bodies. Some people might not be happy about the hills near the mid crater though.
I recommend: River Runs Dry/bc, koth, lmoth, stb, terries; River Runs Dark/bc, koth, lmoth, stb, terries.

Ashes to Ashes
Author: CoM
Meshes: 5t Light, 4t Dark, 4t Silver/Shadow
Download: n/a
This was played in my TFFA tournament, Valor. Some people liked it, some people didn't. I think it's nice though. This map can be tricky because there are areas of the map where it can be hard to tell where units can and can't walk/fly. Gameplay gets really tight around the middle area, and the creators of the map could have probably gotten a little more creative with flag placements in FR. Terries on this map is what really should be played, because it's a waste to play koth/lmoth on this and not let players span the map and battle it out.
I recommend: Dust to Dust/Terries, Assassin; Ashes to Dust/STB, Terries, FR, Koth; Ashes to Ashes/Terries, stb.

Azkruic Epoch
Author: GimpMask
Meshes: 2t Light, 2t Dark
Download: Available @ uDogs HL (http://hl.udogs.net) - HL app not needed!
I'm not sure when this map was made. It's a new approach to 2-team maps, where both teams are positioned nearly parallel to each other, and the lmoth/koth flag placement (normally the mid area) is a straight shot for both teams- forming sort of a triangle if you connect the dots between the 2 start spots and the flag. The light mesh is almost your standard desert unit set, but with locks. The colormap is also different for the light mesh (Tul Azkruic), where the cmap is a desert/dry river setting instead of a forest/river setting for the dark mesh (Seyanu Azkruic). The unit trade on the dark mesh is messed up a little, mainly because it has a 'krid giant on it, and only two arty units (fetch and bre's). I have yet to play this map with a full load (7v7+), so I can't really speak to its gameplay. Because of the design, teams/players are limited in options with regards to strategy (everygame = lots of stuff mid & south) Probably not a map you'd see in a tournament, but it doesn't look bad and could be fun for certain gampetypes..
I recommend: Tul Azkruic/lmoth, koth, terries, captures

Behind the Library

This is a nicely done map, that is a bit small for 2t games, but makes a nice 4t map. We tested this map out as a possible pick for the Valor tournament. It ultimately was crossed off the list due to some bad problems on some of the meshes. The map should be taken and updated by someone. :)
I recommend: Depends on what meshes don't explode. Both 4t meshes should be ok FR maps though.

Ok, I lied, I can't write descriptions for all the maps. I'm tired as hell. I'm just going to name maps, authors, meshes and give a DL link. Sorry! heh
