The Art of addiction and quiting... - Okko
Im writing this article becuase as Mwc time is here again, Some of us will depart m2 after it is over. While this may be tragic to some, It is the way inwhich the "myth-cycle" works:

As you might imagine, I, like many M2 players have at one point or another quit myth atleast once. Myth is a heartless game which takes over your mind much worse then a usual game does. See Myth gets you addicted in cycles, hence the term "myth-cycle".
These cycles consist of buying the game, playing it for a while (usually a year or more) then when the time comes, you finally get somewhat bored and decide to quit. So you are thinking, gg , ill go off to play a new game now etc, but its not that easy.
About 5-6 months later you will start to get "symptoms(sp?)". You'll think to yourself " i wonder what my homeys are doing on myth ." So you convince yourself that a you'll just "pop-in" to say "heya" to your homeboys and see what has been going on in the myth world.
Your curious as to whos won what tourney and where your mortal enemies are etc. So then your homeboys are on and they want you to join them in a little "innocent" game, mb a fun ffa. You don't initially see the harm in it so you proceed. Next thing you know,
you get on again, mb a few days later, and then ut-oh, your myth-cycle is done with PMS stage and your back to mythland. Everything starts to feel fun again, especially when you get to "bone" again for the first time against some poor newbie. So you automatically
think you "still got it" and go out. Sometimes at this stage of the cycle youll find alot of things may have changed from before(strats, unit techniques, or even the occurence of wwII(as the waterboys mom would say "wwII is the devil"). Whatever the case may be you
have returned to myth life. Your mom(or wife/gf) begins to yell at you again for playing " that damn game " and your social presence usually suffers just a tad. Infact I don't think ive washed my car in 4 months :(. Although some of us still only play sparringly,
and spend a majority of our time with our real life friends, the addiction is still there. Its hard to explain the exact essence of the myth-cycle so i will share my experience:

I bought m1 because basically it was the only good game there was for macs at the time. yadda yadda yadda... skip the my myth life part... I basically played the game until I was bored, then i quit. Probably 4 months later, i found myself playing again,
almost moreso then before. Well a good 6-7 months goes by and the game has become boring again. This time I'm pretty determined to rid myself of this reoccuring cycle by doing the "Forsaken Act" of breaking my m1 cd. See most people seem to think " wow this guy
is a nutcase " but in reality can you think of a better way inwhich a myth game can no longer tempt you? My plan eventually worked as 4 months went by, and i got those cravings again, yet i could calmly tell myself " I would get on and see whats going on, but whopps
i broke my cd, too bad." Its like a personal defense mechanism, much like where if you have a nail biting problem your would put that very nasty taste stuff on your fingernails to stop yourself from biting them(whopps too bad i forgot to do that, still bite my nails
today :\  ). Well breaking the cd is much the same way, In a sense you feel that you have "broken the cycle." Life seems all well and good as you've no gone a long while without playing myth, but then the dreaded happens. You somehow find out the Bungie is making a
sequel, At first you try to control yourself to not look at the screenshots or read the stories and articles, but you cannot hold your obsession within. You then you convince yourself you will buy the game "just to see what its like" or "just to see how the "homeys" are."
The bad part is you totally forgot the addictiveness of myth, and opps bungie just happened to make alot of improvements and the game is totally fresh. There is only so long before you realize you have re-entered your myth-cycle. Just like the first time, you play for a
long while, maybe a year. Then it either becomes boring to you or life issues pull you away. So you think to yourself " i won't be drawn back to myth this time, this is a different game." but opps you were wrong. So a couple months go by and you get the same urges about
"seeing whats going on." So you re-enter the cycle once again. Eventually when you figure out that ranked has gone bad, and you finally move yourself to unranked you get a little hic-up of refreshment about the game. The Total Codex comes out and theres a breath of fresh
air some more, but eventually you end up right back to Mr. Quit land. This time you decide its for good, see for me, i got into a fight with my gf and somehow she said something like " if you ever would get your ass off that game yadda yadda ". I don't know why i was so
angry, it could of been what she said, or the fact that i was drinking jack daniels but for some reason i was like "FINE!" and then snapped the cd right infront of her face(and let me tell you people, cds do not just break in 2 pieces, they shatter into
about 324234234 little fragments that are a bitch to clean up, keep this in mind when breaking your cd). Needless to say this totally shocked her, infact she felt really bad. So the next day she promises to help me find a new cd but oops, we come to find out that finding
a myth 2 cd at this time is like finding sd's penis, it just doesn't exist". So oops sorry TBT team, i just broke my cd in a fight with my gf, sorry ill miss the matches :D. Now your thinking your cycle is FINALLY broken, but no, one of your friends just happens to send
you a myth2 .exe crack, which basically lets you play without a cd. Its at this point inwhich you realize that you have NO ESCAPE from the myth-cycle. So now you wanting to play again, and you know from the past that your "other half" can become delusional and try to
break the cycle. So realizing that if you delete all your folder etc you will have no chance of even playing again, your one half decides to make a backup file of your m2 folders etc. Needless to say, one day your get bored again, and tell yourself your done with the
game in for all your delete your entire m2 folder, you know the backup folder is there, but you decide to spare its life for now. And now once again you are playing still. And now you are sad to hear that they are making a myth3. Oh great, another year or so of 6
flagging, dropping a 9 on some floaters and having to constantly say 'gg'.

The Moral of this story is to:

A: Never listen to me

B: you can never break the myth cycle(hence why all you people quiting after mwc will be back)

C: Peanut butter is fun while having sex

D: I have no sense of grammar

E: You all are just as affected by the myth cycle as me, if you weren't addicted to this game you wouldn't be in a "Tounament" about the game.

F: sd and me have "no-penis" sex

G: Breaking cd's is fun

H: Im a lunatic, howtf did i get a gf

I: and lastly , the true secret to breaking the myth-cycle is inordinate ammounts of sex, sex > myth...
